TAFICITA Tablets

TAFICITA Tablets TAFICITA is a fixed-dose antiretroviral combination composed of Emtricitabine (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor) and Tenofovir Alafenamide (a targeted prodrug of the nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor tenofovir). After cellular uptake, emtricitabine is phosphorylated to emtricitabine 5'-triphosphate, and tenofovir alafenamide is hydrolyzed intracellularly to tenofovir and then phosphorylated to tenofovir diphosphate. Both active metabolites compete with natural substrates for binding to HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and integrate into viral DNA, terminating the DNA chain and blocking viral replication. TAFICITA is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection, or alone as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 infection in at-risk individuals.
