TERAVIR Tablets TERAVIR contains Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. Following absorption, it is rapidly converted to tenofovir and subsequently phosphorylated intracellularly to active tenofovir diphosphate. Active tenofovir diphosphate competes with natural deoxyadenosine 5'-triphosphate for binding to viral reverse transcriptase and viral DNA polymerase, incorporating into the viral DNA strand to cause DNA chain termination. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults and pediatric patients, as well as for the management of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents.
