TENOF Tablets TENOF contains Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diester analog of adenosine monophosphate. Following oral administration and systemic absorption, it undergoes bioactivation to tenofovir and intracellular phosphorylation to the active metabolite, tenofovir diphosphate. Tenofovir diphosphate competes with natural substrates for binding to viral enzymes and incorporates into viral DNA, causing DNA chain termination and inhibiting both HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and Hepatitis B virus (HBV) polymerase. TENOF is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents and for the management of chronic Hepatitis B infection in adult and pediatric patients.
