Capegard 500mg Tablets Capegard 500 contains Capecitabine, an orally administered prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Capecitabine undergoes a three-step enzymatic conversion pathway, ending with thymidine phosphorylase (which is significantly more active in tumor tissue than in healthy tissue), converting it directly into cytotoxic 5-FU inside tumor cells. 5-FU is further metabolized into active metabolites that inhibit thymidylate synthase and incorporate into RNA and DNA, preventing DNA synthesis, cell division, and inducing tumor apoptosis. Capegard 500 is indicated for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, adjuvant treatment of stage III colon cancer, advanced gastric cancer, and locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
